hee!

Since everyone else posts updates to their nation states (http://www.nationstates.com/), I'm finding my current status amusing so posting too:

The Free Land of Zaes

"I can smell your spicy brains."

UN Category: Left-Leaning College State

Civil Rights: Excessive
Economy: Fragile
Political Freedoms: Average

The Free Land of Zaes is a very large, socially progressive nation, renowned for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed population of 86 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and the Environment. The average income tax rate is 46%, but much higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is led by the Trout Farming industry, followed by Book Publishing and Gambling.

College students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, a large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway, citizens select which government department gets their income tax dollars each year, and the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well- funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Zaes's national animal is the zebra, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the zhmu.

I'm not sure where the cops got the money from, unless my people asked for funding them in their taxes, but hey. It's not like much is illegal there so far. :)
